Strange Attractor

2016 call out

Call out for artists to participate in 2016 choreographic and cross disciplinary residency is now closed.

Strange Attractor: “make-think-speak”
Facilitated by David Pledger

Strange Attractor is a choreographic development platform for dance artists and artists of other art forms interested to engage in cross art form collaboration, interdisciplinary practices and contemporary performance making. It is a process with focus on choreographic investigation, artistic research, critical dialogue and collaboration.

Eight artists, a mix of movement based artists and artists of other forms, work in Canberra across an intensive two week residency, 19th June – 3rd July, 2016.

Artists are guided by the facilitation and provocation of internationally acclaimed artist/producer, David Pledger. They are also joined by a Writer in Residence who will reflect and document observations of the unfolding process.

The emphasis of “make-think-speak” will be on developing modes and models of collaboration between artists and between art-forms. As the development of a productive critical language is a key objective of the lab, artists will be encouraged to contribute to the discussions around each other’s projects. This engagement will be facilitated by Pledger in consultation with each participant on the development of their project. “make-think-speak” helps artists develop a language when speaking about their practice, a language that can adapt to the various contexts in which their work places them, and which enhances their dramaturgical trajectory.

The residency will culminate in an open showing of developing processes, experimentations and findings of the two week residency. Here peers and public audiences are invited to witness and engage in discussion and feedback processes with the artists.

Strange Attractor: “make-think- speak” aims to fuel cross arts practices and develop new collaborative dialogues. It builds an awareness of interdisciplinary practices, informing and engages audiences (including presenters, media, critics) to critical dialogue about artistic practice.
